Show TEST MADE ON U. P. TRAINS FAVORABLE SHOWING FOR THE UTAH DIVISION. 1 Engines Do Good Work Under Control of Engineers of Long1 Experience Superintendent Is Pleased. Superintendent W. A. Whitney of the Utah division of the Union Pacific-arrived Pacific-arrived from Rawlins this morning, where ho had been to observo the clever clev-er workings or the test car now being operated over the system by the Scran-ton Scran-ton International School management, liy an electric system connecting tho car with the engine drawing the train, a record Is kept of stops at stations, the purpose or cause of delay; the amount of fuel handled by the tiro-man; tiro-man; the pressure of steam, speed, enrves, time; the drawbar pull, showing show-ing the capacity or the engine as It is working, the manipulation of tho air brake machinery'and tho like. The tests made on tho Utah division divis-ion under the personal observation of Superintendent Wrhltney brought 'out the fact that the Union Pacific passenger engines wcro all doing excellent ex-cellent and satisfactory work and were in charge of competent and experienced ex-perienced men who were thoroughly fnmiliar with track conditions and tho duties to which they were assigned. Mr Whitney added that the car was a good-thing in many ways, but on the tefts made over the Utah division divis-ion it had simply verified his own views regarding the Union Pacific mo-live mo-live power and the capability and intelligence in-telligence of the company's old employes. |
