Show I with Freddie Welsh, the lightweignt champion of England. This . Is the l news brought to this city from San Francisco by George W. Hancock, the matchmaker of the Pacific Athletic club, who has succeeded in getting I Nelson's signature to a set of articles t calling for the champion to meet Ad Wolgast in this city during Elks' week, In July. During the conference between Nelson Nel-son and Hancock, the lightweight champion is quoted by the latter as follows. "I Intend to quit the game next September. Sep-tember. My career has been a long, hard and honorable one. and it is about time for me to retire. 7 want to fight four times more, one fight a month. I will give Welsh a crack at the title, as a great many people seem to think that the foreigner foreign-er has a chance against me." It has not been determined yet whether the Nelaon-Wolgast fight will be a 10, 20 or 45-round contest. Mc-Carey Mc-Carey has about completed negotiations negotia-tions for tho Jeffries arena, at Vernon, and may possibly shove Nelson and Wolgast on for the long distance route. This is agreeable to Nelson, a9 he Is to receive more money for this than If the bout is decided inside the city limits In a ten-round affair. Hancock discredits the story of a possible Nel-son-ThompBon match. If Nelson and Welsh are to bo brought together the match will, in all probability, come to Los Angeles. Cof-froth Cof-froth will not be a strong bidder for the battle, as Welsh Is not thought 60 well of in San Francisco as he Is in Los Angeles. Welsh has a strong following here and will be backed by many of the "wise" members of the fight crowd to beat Nelson.
