Show I .NOTED PIONEER OF COLORADO IS DEAD DENVER, Nov. 17 Henry Tracey 1 West 9 8 years old, said to be tho lat ' if iarlving member of tin locating I committee of the Union colony, which founded Greeley, Colo., for Horace 1 Qreeley, died Thursday afternoon at Caldwell, Ida., according to word received re-ceived here by his son, George H. Mr. TYest resided in Greeley for 40 1 years. He founded the first bank at ' Greeley, May 14. 18 70 He was a .member and president of tho Union colony for a number of years. Born at Palmyra, near Rochester, ,'mi N. T.. Oct 17, 1824. Mr. West went Vr:' to Chicago early In life and then to LSfc, FOrt Dearborn. In 1870, ho came j west with Nathan C. Meeker and General Gen-eral R. A. Cameron as a locating com-f com-f tf mlttee to select a Bite for the Union They selected the site on which Greeley now stands, and the next year drew up articles of incorporation j for tho Union colony of Colorado. Mr. West was elected the first secretary secre-tary of the colony. |
