Show I COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION Three Positions to Be Filled This Year By-Voters. By-Voters. Three positions on the county hoard of education are to be filled at the election on December 6. The election, according to law, is held every two years on the first Wednesday Wed-nesday of December. This year being the year when three out of the five positions fall vacant, there is considerable interest being shown 111 the candidates for j election December fi. The county hoard of education while in session yesterday voted to print cards which will announce the j election and where they are to be j held. These will be posted Monday in Districts 1. 8 and ft. District 1 comprises the (owns of ETarrisville, North Ogden and Pleasant Pleas-ant View. Thomas Budge of rieas-ant rieas-ant View Is the acting board member mem-ber from this district. He has filed notice of his intention to become a candidate to succeed himself, and is j the only candidate from that district to file District No. -t Is composed of the towns of Wilson. Marriott. Kherdale. Burch Creek and Uintah. Frank W Stratford is the Incumbent No applications ap-plications have been filed in this district dis-trict to date. The manv friends of Air. Stratford have urged him to become be-come n candidate) but he has not yet consented to make tho run, it is eald. I'rcclnct No. 5 Is composed of Huntsvllle, Eden and Liberty with John Halls as the present member Mr Halls has definitely de, ided to withdraw with-draw from board work as he has moved from the valley and is now making his home in Ogden. He leaves a splendid record as board member in which capacity lie has served 1C years and which record is excelled by but ono other member, Frank W. Stratford, who has served faithfully and well for the past 20 j ears, Supt. B A I owler said. One candidate has filed ntolce in the office of the board of education for the position -in J'recinct No. 6. This was Joseph L. Peterson of Huntsvllle. Hunts-vllle. Other candidates are being groomed for the various positions by their friends, but no others havo definitely defi-nitely proclaimed their intentions thus far. "There ore two or three interesting: things connected with this election," said Superintendent Fowler, "and these seem not to be generally known. One is that women may compete for these positions as well as men. While some districts always have one or more women on their boards. Weber county has never had a woman board member, at least since consolidation was effected." "Another fact of which most taxpayers tax-payers are not aware is that the position posi-tion pays but :i nominal salary' of $300 per year. There is a good deal of work, frequently some adverse critic-Ism, critic-Ism, but very little remuneration for Lho hoard member. Ho must needs be public-spirited to accept the post.
