Show I Basketball i . Last year there was considerable 1 controversy at the end of the basket- . baU season concerning the tactics us- ': : . ed by the' L. D. S. School in winning f U - - an empty state championship. The $ story of their downfall is too well V - known to bear repeating, but for the ,t sake of those who do not remember i the circumstances, early this Spring at the annual state tournament, it might be weU to state that some one spUled f the beans, after L. D. S. had gobbled -i . : every other team in the state, and told j I that the Saints were using inelegible I j! w ' players to further their ambitions. i . Salt Lake papers were quite profuse in n explaining why it should not receive J ' publicity, but the PRESS-BULLE- TIN, ever sponsoring clean athletics, r - and-telling the truth about the un- . clean, declared at that time that L. ! D. S. should be suspended for the period of one year from athletic ac- . .'' tivities with the other schools of the 7 district. Considerable controversy ensued during the footbaU season just j,. - closed, and as far as this paper is able to learn, the championship for high -,y . school football is still muddled up. 1 But we are not going to talk about ' ; footbaU, but of basketball, which is the next sport on the docket, and to - many Bingham Canyon folks, the . " ' most important of all the sports. rK meeting held during the past '- ' week in Salt Lake ended with East ' High, West High, Ogden and Provo High Schools dropping out of the ,i State High School Athletic associa- i tion, and they are going to have a I - schedule of their own. Now, we find t that the Salt Lake district is short - j - two members from their organization. . What is going to be done? Are the powers that be going to rule that I Bingham Canyon and Jordan must I , enter into the Salt Lake ranks? It is I a cinch that Jordan would not sahc- v . v tion any such move as they still feel j . in the valley school that L. D. S. . (Continued on Page 11) .? J BASKETBALL (Continued from Page 1) l,' kept them from winning the ttate I title. . Ig.. , . Should Bingham Canyon High " School enter into Salt Lake division? Emphatically no. What has Bingham ' . Canyon to do with the rabblings of , the four largest high schools in the ; state? Bingham Canyon High School belongs to the Jordan School District - and should remain so. A canvas of the fans of the town shows that Bingham High School will be boycotted should it decide to cast its lot with L. D. S. and Granite. The . fans of this town are the most loyal in the state, and yet they would turn a deaf ear to a change of divisions. And they are right Bingham Canyon must stay in the Jordan School dis-.:"'."";',' dis-.:"'."";',' trict if she would expect the approval . -.- ' - . of the fans.-' . ....Getting back to the secession of the four schools 'that broke away from the Utah State High School Athletic ) '.- association. Did they do right? Let us see. Their claim is that High , School Athletics are controlled in this state by three men-, that the Czar in his palmy days did not have the pow-I pow-I er these three men have at the pres- I . ; enl time. It is theirs to do as they please, and the four schools, in an effort ef-fort to overthrow this Czarism de-' de-' cided to break from the ranks. East, West, Ogden and Provo will have just as much fun playing by them-( them-( selves, and finding out who is champ, r - - ' as the schools that stick to the Ath- letic Association of the state,, and when they are defeated to be inTorm- .. ? ed that an ineligible team has done the damage. This paper is for clean v athletics, v and for this reason, if for no other, feels that the Bingham High School V should stick to the Jordan District, y and not affiliate itself with any other Cs . - division. We were asked the other Jf day, "Is L. D. S. a High School or , a Junior College?" What do you X think it is? , . |
