Show MERCHANTS SEEK TO HAVE MAIL AIR SERVICE TERMINAL OF THE ! GOVERNMENT IN THIS CITY The Stockholders of the Ogden Merchants' Mer-chants' association met lust evening at the offices of the organization in the Ed It S building. Among the many matters mat-ters brought before the members was the establishing of traffic officers on the intersection of Twenty-fourth Street and Washington avenue and also on Twenty-fifth street and Washington Wash-ington avenue to better provide for public safety I J. S Lewis, president of the organisation, organ-isation, presented to the stockholders the statistics that he had gathered fiom the various business concerns. In one-hair of Ogden Iheer is a payroll of about $7,000,000. This includes the railroad offices and yards. It is estimated esti-mated that the other concerns in Ogden Og-den that, as yet, have not sent in re- j ports, will bring the total annual payroll pay-roll of the city somewhere close to 110,000.000. Answers to the letters sent out hy the associatiton to the Spcrry Flour and Globe Milling companies, congratulating con-gratulating them on selecting Ogden as a place for the erection of their plants, were read thanking the merchants. mer-chants. In answer to a letter sent by the merchants to the Utah Light and Pow er eoinpany. )n regard to the removing of the advertising signs in Ogden canyon, can-yon, a statement was read from that company saying that it wouid be glad to have the committee of the merchants mer-chants call upon the company and arrange ar-range for the removing of the signs. Among the other business of the meeting, it was decided to send a letter let-ter to the city commissioners in regard re-gard to the establishing of more water wat-er hydrants In the business section of the city to assure protection against fire. Air Mail Terminal. In an effort to have Ogden selected as a terminal for the proposed transcontinental trans-continental air mail route, the merchants mer-chants voted to have the following letter let-ter sent to the postmaster general at Washington and also to the senators and representatives of the state: "The Merchnnts of Ogden, an incor ;porated association, comprising in its membership representatives of the .various commercial, industrial and pro I fessional interests of this city, begs respectfully to invite the postal authorities au-thorities to consider the establishment establish-ment of a landing station and terminal j facilities in the "ocean to ocean aerial mail service" which we understand is in contemplation by the department. It was further decided by the merchants mer-chants to petition the city commission to enforce the Sunday closing law, I which Is both a state law and a el'y ordinance It was brought to their attention at-tention that many stores, especially along Twenty-fifth street, did not obey this law. It was decided to postpone the appointing ap-pointing of committees to promote the building of a hotel in Ogden. It was decided, however, to correspond with Mrs. E. II Harriman in nn effort n secure her donation for the erection of the hotel as a memorial to her husband. |
