Show I INTRODUCING OMAHA TO OGDEN. When the Omaha boosters arrive in Ogden this afternoon, they will have a story to tell of Omaha's growth, which will hold attention. Omaha is the first great city to the east of us. Ogden feels as though there is a neighborly attachment. Railroad men, traveling out of here, alternately room in Ogden and Omaha. But we have a better undei standing of Omaha and its growth, than the visitors have of the resources of Ogden. Therefore, while the boosters are in our midst, thev should be allowed to become inocu lat-ed lat-ed with the Ogden germ. Ogden is beginning to develop as Omaha did thirty odd years ago. Here are being established packing plants, grain elevators, flour mills, cereal factories, canneiies. and other industnes on which population can rest. Ogden is closer to the supply point of cattle than is Omaha. That should stimulate the grouih of the local packing industry, as it cuts down the loss from shrinkage. Hogs are increasing rapidly in the intermountain country, and the wheat-fed porker is said to equal the corn-raised product, and our hams and bacon are making Ogden famous. Across the viaduct is the great Hansen Livestock and Feeding company's com-pany's yards, where the Omaha men will see a foundation which will cause them to speculate how long it will be until Ogden will rank well up with the best livestock markets in the United States. In every direction that the visitors turn they will find the stakes being driven for a greater Ogden. We will listen with interest to the record Omaha has made and we will be pleased to learn of new outlets in that city on the Missouri Mis-souri for the products of our industries. But of this we are certain: The Omaha men, with their keen grasp of opportunities, will profit most by their contact with us, and more than one of them will go home to spread the word that for the man of energy and some capital capi-tal no place offers a brighter future than Ogden. If Ogden could capture this one group of progressive, enterprising Nebraska citizens and set them to the task of building on the stones that have been laid, in4ive years Ogden could be transformed by additions and improvements as to leave few of the old landmarks in the business center. Ogden presents the greatest possibilities in wealth-gathering and population increase of any place its size in the United States. |
