Canadian press, a mutual news-gathering organization, organ-ization, representing every daily paper in Canada, nl its annual meeting here, declined with thanks, the offer of financial fi-nancial aid by the British government. The organization voted that it could not, in self-respect, burden the British taxpayer, but that it was prepared, from its. own resources, and by continuation con-tinuation of aid received from the dominion do-minion government, to develop a service serv-ice of inter-imperial cable news. E. Norman Smith, of tho Ottawa Journal, wos elected president; F. H. Macklin, of tho Manitoba Free Press, first vice president, and G. Fred Pearson, Pear-son, of the Halifax Chronicle, second vico president. C. O. Knowles, manager mana-ger since the organization of the new association in 1917, resigned to become be-come assistant managing editor of the Toronto Telegram. J. F. B. Llvesay. assistant general manager since 1917, and acting general manager Gince last November, was appointed general manager.. |
