Show REPORT GIVEN CONVENTION IN REELSOF FILM, Methodists Adopt Plan For First Time Compulsory j Bible Reading Proposed. DES MOINES, la., May 11. Part of the roport of. the board of home missions of tho Methodist Episcopal church was presented to the general, conference last night in motion pic-1 tures. Tho anniversary of tho board was observed and the report for the' fiuadrennlum was part of the program. pro-gram. Three and a half reels of film wero shown. It was said to bo the first time any plan of tho kind was attcmptod. The report was a combination of animated cartoons presenting .tabloid dramas showing among other things1 tho progress made In tho rural church, I and foreign speaking communtly, and other kindred branches of work. Tho plcturo was shown for the first time, i The addresses on the anniversary program were delivered by Bishops Adlaw Leonard of San Francisco, Bishop Charles B. Mitchell, of St. Paul, and Edwin Holt Hughes, of Boston. Dr: D. D. Forsyth, secretary secre-tary of tho board of homo mlsions, also spoko, outlining briefly tho work of tho quadrennlum and stating that the contennary movement had made possible in new work. J. Henry Smytho Jr., of New York City, asked and was given permission to address tho sub-committee on recreation re-creation of the committee on, the state of tho church, which committee Is considernlg the memorals submitted with reference to the amusement clause of tho Methodist discipline. Mr. Smytho denied ompathically that ho is here as a representative of the New York dancing mastor's association. Compulsory Bible Readings Urged Recommendations that every state In tho Union make compulsory dally readings of tho Bible in the public schools wero contained In resolutions Introduced at the general conference session today. They were referred to tho commlttco on ducatlon. Efforts to restore dally Bible readings in the schools In Illinois, California and Louisiana Lou-isiana wero recommended. Alleged conditions in cortaln towns, on tho Mexican border were deplored In other resolutions.
