Illinois Illi-nois Republicans in state convention today elected ten national delcgates-at-large, each to have four-fifths of a vote, a'nd unanimously adopted resolutions resolu-tions providing that the delegation vote for Governor F. O. Lowden of Illinois Il-linois for the presidency until released releas-ed by the governor. The convention defeated, 1,110 to 1 631, a platform plank of principles supported sup-ported by Mayor William Hale Thompson Thomp-son of Chicago, national committeeman, committee-man, and aleclded to postpone action in this regard until after tho national convention. The plank had been defeated de-feated in the committee on resolutions and was taken to the floor of tho convention con-vention in a minority report, on which dobato of one hour and a half was al-loted al-loted each of the two groups. Delegates at large chosen were Senator Sen-ator L. Y. Sherman and Medill McCor-mick. McCor-mick. Coneressmen F. I.. Smith nnH William Rodenberg, Harold Ickes, I Lieutenant Governor John Oglesby, Secretary of State L. L. Emerson, Mayor May-or Thompson, Samuel Ettelson and Fred Upham. When Senator McCormick addressed address-ed tho convention many delegates uinped to their feet cheering after he said: "Fellow Republicans, whatever jour differences might be see to it that you do one thing and that is to i present a solid front, for Frank O. Lowden Low-den for president." The Cook county (Chicago) delegation sat silent while ; pandemonium broke loose around it. |
