Show i BOOKS FOR EVERYBODY. i Books for everybody. That is the slogan of the American Library association which has announced an-nounced a -campaign to increase the number of books available" for readers read-ers and' also make ii easier for the readers to get to tho booksa.-- The association is not going to wait until library buildings arc built 1o hold the books. The hard workers of the organization are making arrangements I whereby even country stores become branch libraries. There arc 75.0U0 blind - persons in the United States. Many of these can read books of raised type whicn ' are printed for the sightless, but the ; facilities to serve tho blind are woefully woe-fully inadequate. The American Library association plans to remedy this condition- The association will require $2,000, 000 to carry out its program. The ' money will not bo sought through the medium of a drive but will bo obtained through the individual efforts of the' librarians, thoraselves. In carrying out the enlarged program, pro-gram, the association will advocate the extension of the industrial plant library idea. The association is meeting meet-ing the book needs of the coast guard and lighthouse service and hospitals of the United States public health ser- 1 vice. j Through the efforts of ihe'associa- ! tion during the war, many men who i had never been reached by the appeal ' of good literature before they entered J tho service, became Interested in reading read-ing good books. |
