Sr., and three sons, William. Frank and George, was placed upon William P. Leihbridge at 1 1 ho hearing before City Judge D. R. Roberts this morning when William T Stephens, Jr., and Frank Stcphtnts testified. They te&tlfled In substance, that I Leth bridge entered the apartment ! 'with fire in his e e and his right hand taped," that he struck William J ! Stephens. Sr , with his fist and his head and that tho Sr,n then conducted Lethbrldge out of the building. The witnesses declared that Leth-hiidRo Leth-hiidRo resisted being laken from the building, but they denied they struck him or pulled his hair and Said they did not know how he receded a black eye. Mra. Lulu Stephens, who se.id she I was the owner of the apartments, was the first witness for the defense. She related the discussion with regard to the increase in rent and said Leth- ! bridge had told her she was a Dol-'sheviki Dol-'sheviki and a profiteer and that he would kick up the fight she ever 3a w. I William Slephens. her husband, was the next witness and he gave a de-1 jtained story of ihe rumpus, insisting i that Lcthbndge was to blame, declar-1 Ing that he struck the father. Steph-I Steph-I ens said he and his brother, (Jeorge, had removed Lethbridge's furniture i from his apartment to the hall because "Lethbridge had not paid his rent." The testimony of Frank Stephens 'was almost identical with that of tho brother and ho was being cross examined ex-amined at the noon recess. It developed today that wbilo- 1 lie j rumpus was on in full blast at the apartment, a woman tenant seized a glass ase and wielded it with the threat: "If you strike Mr. Lethbridge, I'll strike you with this." |
