Show COKE II NURSING IS OUTLINED N STATE HEALTH BOW : The state board of health has sent out the following as a suggestive outline out-line for a course in home nursing: Tho nurse should adopt the following follow-ing precautions: Wash hands thor-! oughly after coming in contact with j eacn patient or with bedclothes. Do not put hands in mouth or about face. 1 It is also safer to dip hands In antiseptic anti-septic solution made of dissolving two bichloride of mercury tablets in a quart of water. Bichloride of mercury Is very poisonous and care should bo taken to prevent swallowing same. Keep bowels open, drink plenty of water, and get proper amount of ros. and sleep. i .The sick room should be well ventilated venti-lated day and night, but patient should! not be placed In a draft. " J Uomovc all unnecessary furniture, an l clothing. j Keep room quiet. j The patient shoud be kept in bed with sufficient covering lo keep warm. Take pulse nnd temperature and give food at regular intervals and keep a record of these. Make a note of all drugs given. The record should also show the time of bowel and kidney movements and the-amount of sleep and nourishment the patient gets. The normal pulse rate is 72 SO heats per minute for adults; more rapid for children. Pulse can best be fell on front of arm just above the vri3t on the thumb side. The normal temperature is about 9SV degrees. In taking the lempora-lure lempora-lure place the thormometer under patient's pa-tient's tongue and have the lips closed. clos-ed. Be sure and shake Uie thermometer thermome-ter down before it is used. After uso the thermometer should bo soaked in the' disinfectant solution and then washed in clean cold water. Never use hot water for the purpose, In children take the temperature by placing ther mometor well under the arm. J If patient has temperature of 102 dc grces or more put ice cap to head and rub back and limbs with camphor or witcn hazel, keeping the patient under cover. Bathe face and hands in cold water. If patient gets cold put hot water bottle or hoi brick or iron to feet and limbs. j Make patient drink plenty of water. Keep bowels open freely wiih salts, ' oil or enemas. j After patient has perspired freely , change clothing and bedclothes, being careful not to expose the patient or to allow him to become chilled. Keep patient's teeth and mouth clean. , Vs long as patient has fever give only liquid diet fruit juice, meat Juices, broths and soups. Have patient spit in paper or old cloths which can be. burned; and burn these often. 1 Keep patient in bed at least three full days after the fever has become normal.
