Mi Scott returned yesterday morninc i from Portland, Ore., where he attended B forest Service meeting which was rulled to discuss the educational featui s of the forest service. Representatives I from o cry forest district were present, ai well as Herbert A. Smith, editor of tho I forest srvlec publications, and Paul S. I KeJHter of the branch of lnformnllon. 'both of whom were from the Washington offices. Mr. Scott stated that his now duties consisted mainly of arranging publications publica-tions regarding forest service work, BX-lilbits BX-lilbits for all sorts of fairs, the compiling of information for commercial clubs, cl-I cl-I leges, schools and other organization"', and the handling of matters pertaining , to forest serv ice activities for the pre" , The general welfare of the forest service employes will also be under the direction of Mr. Scott, as well as certain phases pertaining to the recreational use of national na-tional forests. While at the meeting In Portland. Mr. , Scott, accompanied by other forest work erSi was conducted over the Columbia River Highway. He stated that this road is a wonderful piece of work and is attracting visitors from all parts of the , t, nlted States. Sir, Scott also commented on a recrea- tlonal ground that had been estambllshed near ortland. This ground comprising several acres of limbered land, had been I fitted by the service for the accommodation accommoda-tion of camperx and offered every pos- , yllle facility for lovers of outdoor life. Similar arrangements are to be csta!)- llshed near Ogden and in other parts of Utah arc being planned by Mr. Scott He stated that the creation of a public camping ground In Ogden canyon would be of big benefit to tho Osdcn public. He said the private ownership of homes in the canyon provides summer camping places for the owners of the nomes, but few places where tho general public tnay camp arc asailable. |
