ApTU 2 In favorably favor-ably reporting a bill to impose drastic penalties on disloyal acts, the senate j judiciary' committee today adopted an amendment by Senator Polndexter of Washington prescribing imprisonment ' for twenty years and $10,000 fine for! "whoever shall by any word or act support or lavor the cause of the German Ger-man or its allies in the present war or by word or act opon;,e the cause of the United States therein." The committee also approved the I same penalties lor persons obstructing obstruct-ing government war bond issues and for willfully "attempting" as well as' actual attempts, to obstruct recruiting or enlistment In the army. The roindexter amendment would make it unlawful for "any person or persons in the presence, or hearing, of others to uttr any disloyal, threatening, threaten-ing, scurrilous, contemptuous, slurring abusive or seditious language about the government of the United States. I or the constitution of be United States, or the president of tho United States, or the flag of the United States, or the uniform of the army or navy of ' the United States, or the good and' welfare of the United States, or any other language calculated to bring the ! United si.iii-s or the government on the president of the United States, orj the constitution of the United States, or the army or navy, or sailors and soldiers of the United States, or the flag of the United States, or the good and welfare of the United States into eontempt, scorn or disrespect, or any act calculated to incite or inllame resistance re-sistance to any duly constituted federal fed-eral or state authority connected with the prosecution of war; or threaten the good, or Welfare of the United States, or of the United States government; govern-ment; or ' to advise, urge or Incite! curtailment of production In this coun- I try of any thing or things, product or products necessary or essential to the pro erution of the war in which the United States may bo engaged, with , intent by such curtailment to cripple or hinder tho United States in the 'prosecution of such war."
