Show WATER MAINS NOT TO BE EXTENDED Retrenchment was the keynote of the board of city commissioners at their session this morning when a number of petitions from various parts of the city for water mam i ctem OD and other Improvements were received receiv-ed and denied. Regarding the petition of Franklin S. Woodcock and diners, asking for a culvert at the intersection of the Lynne and Harrisvtlle canals, Chris Flygare, commissioner of streets, reported, re-ported, recommending that guard rails be placed at the bridge now In use Dut tnat tne present unances oi me city would not permit the making of the other improvement at that time. The recommendation was adopt' d. Similar action was taken upon the petition of Mrs. Hannah Monsen, asking ask-ing that the water mains be extended 400 feet east from Jefferson avenue and Thirty -third street her home, p making his report upon this petition, Commissioner Flygare, superintendent of the waterworks and water supply, said that, as there would only be one user of the water, the expense at this time would be too much for the return the city would receive. Ho, therefore, recommended the petition be denied. The petition of XI. Faulkner and others for the extension of water mains and the placing of a fire hydrant on Twentieth street and Grant avenue was favorably acted upon nn |
