Show ORDER CAPTURED ON BATTLEFIELD Document Describes Order of Battle of German Division in Offensive. LOSSES DISREGARDED Special Detachments of Storm j Troops and Batteries Follow Fol-low Infantry. OTTAWA. OnU April 2 A Ger-man Ger-man order captured on the battlefield, battle-field, says Reuter's correspondent! telegraphing from French headquar- j ters in France, describes the order of battle of a German division in tne present offensive as follows- "The division advances in two regimental regi-mental groups progressing side by side The first line of each group I consists first of one regiment of three battalions of infantry, v. hose task it isi to advance straight upon their objec- J lives, regardless of losses, leaving the I work of reducing other centers of re- , sistance to special detachments following fol-lowing them. These consist, first of one companv of storm troops, one andj one-half machine company, a half com- pany of sappers; one detachment of liquid flame throwers, half n heavy trench mortar company, one battery of light trench mortars and two batteries bat-teries of what is called infantry guns. In reserve come the third infantry regiment reg-iment and a division of five tanks of British oricin and an independent group consisting of two cyclist companies com-panies and one company of storm troops. "This division Is supported by twelve batteries of field guns and six of heavy artillery', including a battery of eight-inch howitzers. "According to prisoners a number of enemy battalions have not got special spe-cial light trench mortar detachments known as infantry artillery, equipped with two light trench mortars of a newt model, mounted on specially high! wheels supposed to be capable of firing twenty rounds a minute against tanks or other obstacles The personnel uf each detachment comprises two officers offi-cers and forty men. "It is apparent from the foregoing that the whole apparatus for destroying destroy-ing our centers of resistance has been relegated to the second line, the cele-, brated storm troops, sappers with explosives ex-plosives and light trench mortars instead in-stead being first to follow after the waves of infantry have swept over tlv position. The mission of these specialists spe-cialists remains the same. They clear the trenches, reduce strong points, bomb recalcitrants from dugouts but while tney are doing this the battle is sweeping miles further at any rate in anticipation." |
