The heavy smoke generated t IH in the stack of the destroyers convoying the larger ships lies close to the surface of the sea and forms an i IH opaaue wall through which the U-boat's periscope cannot penetrate. A transport whose path is protected with H smoke screens on either side has little to tear from submarines. H |
