Show IPRICEOFBREADTOBE1 INCREASED IN ZION l SALT LAKE, Dec. 6 Bread prices will be increased by the master bakers of Salt Lake on December 10. At the same time the retail price of bread will, in all probability, be cheaper than it is now. ' This may appear paradoxical, biij. itj is true. Here is the reason: At the! present time the balrers are making I 13-ounce loaves, which they are sell-! ing at S cents wholesale and 10 cents' 'retail, respectively. Beginning Decern-' ber 10 the loaves are to be increased . to 16 ounces, as recommended by the' government, and the price figured onj ; will be 9 cents wholesale and 11 cents; retail. Frank Erath, Sr.. president of the l Master Bakers' association, said yesterday yes-terday that he would be willing to sell! (the new size loaf at the factory, unwrapped, un-wrapped, at the old prices, adding that' I the delivery and wrapping cost would ' make necessary the raise to 9 and 11 cents, respectively. Mr. Erath also , said that it might not be necessary for I the retailers to raise the present ' prices. ! If the new IG-ounce loaves are sold for the same price that the 13-ounce loaves are now selling, the purchaser will be three ounces ahead on each loaf. But even if the retail price of the 16-ounce loaf is increased to 11 cents, the purchaser still is getting more bread for his money than when he paid 10 cents for a 13-ounce loaf. The food administrator for Idaho, former Governor Frank R. Gooding,1 has announced that the retailors of the Gem state have agreed to sell the 16-ounce 16-ounce loaf for the present price 10 cents and it is believed that the retailers re-tailers of Utah will do likewise. In any event,- however, bread will be cheaper in Utah after December 10 than it is now. oo . Membership in Musicians'- International Interna-tional union has increased 60,000 since 1897. . |
