Show BUDGETS IE BEI1 WORKED DOT 8! ' CITY BOARD Members of the city commission probably will dispose of two important matters at their regular meeting Wednesday Wed-nesday morning. The matterof first importance will bo the definite disposal of the petitions peti-tions of the fire and police departments depart-ments for an Increase in salary. The budgets from the various departments will be fil6d today and ready for consideration con-sideration by the commissioners tomorrow to-morrow morning. City Attorney W. H. Reeder announced an-nounced this morning that ho would have the proposed new milk ordinance roady for adoption by the commissioners commission-ers at Wednesday's session. The new ordinance substitutes a flat annual license li-cense fee for the graduating scalo that , now Ib charged the -dairymen. The new I ordinance will require the payment of j an annual fee of $12.50 for each retail 1 wagon and $25 for each wholesale. Mayor T. Samuel Browning made specific inquiry as to the budgets requested re-quested from each of tho departments, which, In addition to the general budget bud-get prepared by City Auditor Larsen, will enable the commissioners to agree upon an Increase in salary for the police po-lice and fire departments. Commis-1 sioner Miles L. Jones stated that the police, fire and other departments un- j der his jurisdiction havo filed their separate budgets. Commissioner Chris Flygare explained that he had received separate reports from the streets department de-partment and would bo able to obtain the budget from the water department during the day. "With all the budgets cn file today," said Mayor Browning, "we will be able to arrive at a definite conclusion as to the petitions for an increase in salary for the police and firemen. Tho matter mat-ter should receive final attontion tomorrow to-morrow morning." Regarding the proposed ordinance to eliminate booths and screened compartments com-partments in cafes, City Attorney Reeder stated that he is Investigating the legality of such an ordinance and may bo able to report this week or early next week. The ordinance requiring requir-ing that all dining rooms, restaurants and cafes be open was filed by the Restaurant Conservation association last week in response to a vice crusade cru-sade started by Police Chief Browning. Brown-ing. The police department takes the position that the booths and screened compartments afford opportunities for juveniles of both sexes to develop Immoral Im-moral tendencies. The commissioners last night receiv-! ed a petition from Japaneso and Chinese Chi-nese restaurant owners, protesting the adoption of the ordinance. The petition alleges booths and screened compartments compart-ments are vital to their business and their elimination, in effect, -would be confiscatory. |
