Show j uu VAGRANT CHI1I SEAT TO HI By RELATIVE Wong Hi, the Chinaman who wao arrested yesterday at 2465 Grant avenue av-enue and charged with vagrancy, was sent to Rock Springs, Wyo., today. HIb cousin called at the police station sta-tion and made arrangements with the court and police officials to send Wong Hi to Wyoming and make him go to work. It is believed that Wong Hi has been for some time a devotee of the delights of opium, a quantity of evil-smelling and peculiarly colored liquid and drugs being found on his person. The Chinese association of Ogden has taken up the matter of frequent vagrancy among their people in this vicinity and the majority of the Chinese are humiliated at the action of their brothers in thus allowing themselves to fall from grace. The association has informed the police department of an Intention to attend to the vagrancy cases themselves, them-selves, in the first instance, by notifying notify-ing any indolent Chinaman known to be loafing in the city, to got to work at once or go to jail. If tho man does not go to work, they will at once notify no-tify the police and have him punished by the white man's law. The police believe thla will aid them in keeping the city clean, as tho Chinamen know who are the busy ones and who are the drones. oo Eight hours a day at $6 a day in wages is being asked by every man in Canadian railway shops from Halifax to Vancouver. oo For the year ended September, 1917, thoro were 330 strikes in New Zealand, Involving 157,756 jeople. |
