Show BILL TO INCREASE PAY OF P.O. CLERKS WASHINGTON. March 20. Pay increases in-creases of 15 per cant for all employes I of the postal service, recommended by the senate postofllce sub-committee in revising the postofllce appropriation bill wero approved lato yesterday by the full committee, which ordered the bill favorably reported. The Increase does not apply to postmasters of the first, second or third classes but obtains ob-tains in the case of fourth class postmasters post-masters deprived of credit for stamp cancellations. Additions made to- the bill were an appropriation of $100,000 for experiments experi-ments in utilizing motor trucks for tho shipment of food to large cities; a clause prohibiting tho censoring in America of mail from the American expeditionary forces. which is censored in Europe; an increase of $200,000 in the houso appropriation for the cen-. sorship of foreign mails; and a clause authorizing tho secretary of war to turn over to the postmaster goneral for use In mall transportation all airplanes air-planes and automobiles unsuitable for military purposes. I A charge of 24 centa an ounco was recommended for airplane mail. 00 |
