Show I! E. SKIH ON LOCAL EPIDEMIC "Editor of tho Standard Believing drastic measures should be adopted Immediately to suppress the spread of influenza, I attended a meeting held last evening by the city commissioners, commission-ers, and I most earnestly requested the closing of all retail stores which can be consistently done and yet allow 1 citizens to secure food and drugs. This i Is not a time for people to be frightened fright-ened as It weakens their constitution, but all should be courageous as possible pos-sible and free from worry. In my opinion opin-ion the closing of the stores would enable en-able more relief work to be performed. perform-ed. Help can be rendered in serving cooked food for those whose time is taxed in waiting on patients. One instance in-stance I encountered on my rounds of inspection yesterday was where an old lady. 70 years of age, was trying to care for six cases of the epidemic with the assistance of a little 10 year old boy. Let us not wait until Thanksgiving day festivities and congested clubs spread this malady but place the ban on them immediately. If business houses were closed, street cars would not be congested. con-gested. I would also suggest that a. relief re-lief committee be appointed In each of the city wards to investigate and render ren-der whatever aid possible and that all take upon themselves to offer some aid and be of some service to the unfortunate un-fortunate ones. "Yours very sinccrelv. "'II. E. SKINNER." |
