After the foregoing resolution had been read, thero was considerable discussion, dis-cussion, not as to tho spirit and aim of the resolution but as to the manner man-ner and method of carrying it out. Mayor T. S. Browning suggested that it was rather a large order to ask J.he city commissioners to appoint so large a committee and give them assurance as-surance that, whatever they planned to do, the city commissioners would grant the site for whatever kind of a building the committee decided upon. Recorder Critchlow begged leave to entetr into tho discussion and point out, without any undue prejudice as the father of four sons enlisted in the t United States combatant service, that iJiis whole movement semed to liave, originated with a few people who used without having first gone to the people on the matter. Mr. Critchlow hinted that even in the supposedly official their country from Ogden, which was printed at great length in a morning paper, there wero lacking a great number of names, and that no such universal canvass as had been spoken1 of in newspaper paragraphs had ever been carried out Mr. Critchlow was of the opinion that tho city of Ogden would be in favor of a fitting memorial to tho troops, and he thought that the whole matter should be a popular movement from the beginning, and that whatever committee was appointed ought to be appointed after the opportunity had been given in the press and in a public place for tho masses of the people to express themselves as to their choice. Comment was made by Editor Zuppann Zup-pann of the Examiner that the Women of American Patriots had tried to make the honor roll comprehensive and exact and that his paper had pub-knowing pub-knowing of omitted names should acquaint ac-quaint Mrs. Mac. Garr of the fact and that yesterday some four hundred names had been given in to the society. so-ciety. On the suggestion of Mr. Jones, the resolution was laid on the table fori discussion at a more suitable time. I i i |
