Show PRODUCE FOOD IS THE SLOGAN There's no service, other than actual army and navy service, in which we can more effectually aid the cause of humanity and bring the war to a successful suc-cessful end than by producing food for our fighting men and for those of our associates in tbe war. This is the part of the citizen soldier. Tho only question ques-tion is, what foods are most important and necessary as war provisions9 To which might be answered, "pork meats and fats because of their suitability to curing, in which form they do not require re-quire the expense of refrigeration in transit and storage." This should be reason enough that all get behind the food administration in increased pork production, either by actually raising hogs or assisting those who do with financial resources. Hog raising today is profitablo for both city and country dwellers. For the former it is made possible by a plan to place brood sows pure! by them on nearby country places. In answer to tho food administrator's appeal, there are many reliablo persons per-sons in the country' prepared and willing will-ing to take care of the sows and their litter for an interest in them. In fact, in order to supply their demands and those of the city dwellers, there has been imported into the cities, carloads of breed sows which can be purchased by those who realize their opportunity in the proposition, and ihe urban resident resi-dent who has a few dollars to invest can now get into the useful and profitable pro-fitable business of hog raising. |
