Show I A WARNING THAT INFLUENZA ; HAS APPEARED IN THIS STATE I SALT LAKE, Oct. 5. Ono death in Ogden and four deaths of Ulahns In various cities and army camp3 of the country were attributed yesterday wholly to or resultant from Spanish Influenza. Reports have reached city and state health officials of the presence pres-ence of the disease in Salt JLake, Ogden, Murray, Midvnlc, Farniington and several other communities. At the request of Dr. T. D. Boatty. the town officials of Coalville havo ordered or-dered all public gatherings there to cease and the public schools to be closed. The order will include picture shows and churches as woll as all other places where people might congregate. con-gregate. Similar action, Dr. Beatty said last night, would immediately bo taken at any other point in the state where there seemed to be any indication indica-tion of the malady's spreading. In Coalville there has been a total of twelve cases develop since Monday, when a man from the east slopped there for but a few hours. None of the cases are serious as yet, the physician' declares, but all are severe. The deaths reported yesterday in- eluded John Hogan, a traveling sales -man, In Ogdon; Evan Banes of Sunny -sido. at Camp Grant, Rookford, 111.! Prlvato Edwin Dahlqulnt of Sandy, at Camp Morrltt, N. At a meeting of tho city and slate health officials hold yesterday it was concluded that the danger of an epidemic epi-demic of tho disease In Salt Lake was not sufficient to warrant an oxtonsivo quarantine, but instructions of the most stringent sort wore Issued requiring re-quiring physicians to instantly report all suspicious cases. Citizens are warned to at once con- suit doctors in case of the development develop-ment of symptoms of the disease, wihch aro commonly reportotd to bo the'samc as those of la grippe. These include a severe backache and general aches, sneezing, fever and chills. Caught at inception, Spanish Influenza Influ-enza is declared not to be dangerous, but is highly contagious and if not given quick attention is liablo to develop de-velop into pneumonia. I |
