Show HARD, BATTLES ON MINTS Enemy Losing Ground in Flanders, France, Italy, Albania Al-bania and Turkey. On the fronts in Flanders, France Italy, Albania and Turkey, the enemy v.v,ul.mu;a iu luau grouqa or is being compelled to throw strong reenforco-ments reenforco-ments in his battle line to hold back his aggressors. In Belgian Flanders the Belgians, British and French troops are still driving forward although their speed has been somewhat lessened bv reason rea-son of tho bad condition of the ground The enemy is swiftly evacuating tho salient between Armentleres and Lens and tho British now are standing only .a scant six miles southwest of Lille over a front of about four miles between be-tween Wavrin and Equinghem, at tho former place having gained a position astride the Lens-Lille railroad. Notwithstanding violent counter-attacks and a line strengthened bv a rresn reserve the British between St Quentin and Cambrai have materially pressed eastward from the region of LaCatelet, and to the north have improved im-proved their positions in Cambrai so well that apparently this important town soon must fall. Taken all In all, the situation of the Germans in this region seems to be critical and the crisis at hand. Far to the rear aerial observers report tho roads congested con-gested with retreating troops, who are being harassed by the machine gun fire of the airmen. As in Flanders, fires are everywhere to be seen, and it is evident that the enemy is realizing realiz-ing that he must give further ground, is vigorously applying the torch. Around Rheinis the French have further extended aheir gains north and northwest of the cathedral city, where they aro all along tho Aisno canal. To tho east In Champagne American forces aro fighting with tho French between the Suippo river and tho Ar-gonne Ar-gonne forest, in addition to holding their original battle line inside and east of the Argonne forest. West of the Argonne, with tho aid of French tanks the Americans have taken the important height positions of Blanc Mont and the Medeah farm and pressed farther northward. Simultaneously the French have advanced ad-vanced their front eastward around Challerange and gained .bettetr posi tions for their operation up the rail- Mj way toward Vouzlera and in keeping the Germans Insldo the northern por- Wm tion of the Argonne forest by an en- fl fllading fire through the Aire valley.
