Show English Division Performs Wonderful Feats in Advance! . WITH THE BRITISH ARMY OK THE ST QUENT1N SECTOR, Oct 3. (By tho Associated Press.) Among the English divisions which have made deep gains in this sector in the recent fighting is tho Forty-sixth, commanded command-ed by u major general who was a private pri-vate in the South African war. It was this division which first crossed the Hindenburg line at SL Quentln canal, north of Bellenglise last Sunday. The entire division attacked from a point 200 yards west of the canal and virtually annihilated all the Germans holding the first Hindenburg lino there. The opposite bank was lined with German machine guns. Some of the British wore life belts removed for the occasion from tho "leave" boats plying between England and France, while others plunged boldly in and swam across through a perfect hall of bullets, bul-lets, Some went hand over hand, across life lines. Once on the other bank the men of this north midlands division immediately imme-diately plunged into the fight, fought their way up tho slippery cnnal banks, went over tho enemy parapets and finished fin-ished off hundreds In every section with bayonets and rifles and pistols fired at point blank.
