Show WIDENING A ROAD H) NORTHWEST IDAHO ' Charles P Calvert, surveyor of the forestry service, returned yesterday afternoon from tho South Fork of tho. Payette road on the Payetto National forest whore ho has been Investigating . construction work. J Ten forest rangers are at work, Mr. Calvert reported, widening the road on j narrow solid rock ledges along a dis-tanco dis-tanco of approximately seventeen! miles. A road provlously had been constructed through this particular canyon, but there woro few places where tvro teams might pass and tho narrow ledges made tho road extrome-ly extrome-ly dangerous. An appropriation of $20,000 has been made this winter for the purpose of remedying thoso features, and. it is I thought, another appropriation of $10,- ( 000 will bo made next summer for the completion of tho work. The road connects con-nects Boise and Sawtooth valleys and Is one of the most scenic in tho country. coun-try. When it Is widened, some of tho curves straightened and more turnouts turn-outs made, tho road will bo the best and one of the most attractive in Idaho. |
