Show CITVAilllENTO1 AGREE ON TfiX TO 00 BUSINESS The city commissioners and Ogden dairymen, as a result of a joint session ses-sion at Mayor T. Samuel Browning's office yesterday afternoon, agreed upon the preliminary plans for nn ordinance which will bo alike satisfactory satisfac-tory to the city and to the milkmen. City Attorney W. H. Reeder attended the meeting and will draw up an ordl- j nance within a few days covering thei situation, along the lines suggested by' the meeting. "The present ordinance requires the payment of an occupation tax on a sliding scale," said Mayor Browning! this morning. "It is unyieldy because! of that fact. Tho milkmen assert, and , with reason, that a proper adherence, to the ordinance would require them to employ a bookkeeper to account for daily sale3 and figure the amount of license due the city. The now ordi-1 nance will provide a flat rate. The j present ordinance also Is rather high.j That Is another objection offered by the dairymen. The conference last afternoon, I am sure, has adjusted tho situation and will settle tho feud that has existed for years between the city and the dairymen." The present ordinance requires at certain payment for tho sale of certain quantities daily. Any amount over one gallon daily is subject to a license tax. The city commissioners, it Is understood, under-stood, are not opposed to changing the sliding scale to a flat rate and are willing to make the flat rate merely nominal. They are Insisting, however, that the ordinance must be so drawn as to keep the dairies undor the city's jurisdiction and subject to Inspection. The dairymen do not object to the inspection, in-spection, but do object to the present complex system of paying a license foe. |
