The cocoanut palm disease has begun to manifest Itself In the northwestern parish of St. James, and It Is feared It will spread over Jamaica and perhaps ruin tho valuable cocoanut Industry altogether. This seems a pesilmlstla view of the matter, but people point to the fact that whereas tho Cayman Islands Is-lands were once covered with cocoa-nut cocoa-nut palms, now none can be grown thore bocauso tho disease has swept all the old trees and withers all the new plants. In BL James numtsri of trees have been stricken by the disease and ruined. The government Is being be-ing urged to take measures to fight the disease before It bares Jamaica of cocoanut palms as It did the Caymans.
