Show YALE-HARVARD BOAT RACE IS CANCELLED; CAMBRIDGE, Mass., March 27. The Yale-Harvard boat race this year will be canceled in event of a declaration decla-ration of war by congress, Fred W. Moore, graduate treasurer of athletics at Harvard university, .said today. Oth-1 er athletic events also will be can-! eeled. he said, although such competition compe-tition as may be decided on Harvard's i home fields, when the preparation does not involve extensive training will be played. The probability of similar ac-1 tion by other colleges may further rc duce these contests. No formal agree-men agree-men has yet been reached regarding the Yale-Harvard regatta at New London, Lon-don, Conn., on June 23, Moore said, al-1 though there has been an Informal exchange ex-change of views between the graduate athletic committees of both universi-l ties. The crew activities would he the first to be abandoned, according to the treasurer, both because of the preparation necessary and the fact that every member of the varsity crew i and most of the members of the sec-ond sec-ond eight are enlisted for some form of military or naval training . |
