Show STARVING PEOPLE OF EUROPE When we read of 5.500,000 destitute persons in Belgium and 2.000.000 in France, there comes to mind a sense of the appalling proportions of the war's horrors. Belgium and France are only a part of the cataclysm. There are Serbia, Rumania. Poland, Armenia and, In fact, every square mile of Europe within with-in the war zone. Conditions in Germany, Austria and Hungary must be most lamentable. The comfortable homes which marked mark-ed Europe prior to the beginning of the war are filled with sorrow. There is no family free from distress. Privation, Priva-tion, uncertainty and sorrow are everywhere. every-where. America, one of the great nations of the world not involved In the calamity, cannot escape the duty of seeking to alleviate the distress which is upon the warring people. These notices of starving men, women and children must hold our attention and bring a response. |
