Show AEROPLANES SEEN HYING LIGHTS PASS IK THE NIGHT Mysterious aeroplanes arc reported to have hovered over Ogden several nights during the past week, one having hav-ing been plainly visiblo at midnight last night, when Dr. John Flnloy Morrison Mor-rison saw it go from cloud to cloud, high above the city. The report today from Dr. Morrison is supported by the statement of Ernest T. Richardson, president of Richardson-Hunt company, com-pany, that he saw an object, which he thought was an aeroplane, over the city one night last week, and that on mother occasion -he heard the hum of n motor apparently overhead. A woman wom-an at Lincoln and Twenty-fifth street saw moving lights high above the eastern part of Ogden. So persistent have become the reports re-ports of neroplane appearances in Utah that the government officials, both civil and military, have started an investigation. More than a month ago there were reports from forest rangers that machines ma-chines were seen over Escalanto and other southern Utah towns, and more recently these reports have become frequent from Moab. Several persons in Salt Lake have also roported seeing flying machines. One report given considerable credence in Salt Lake Is that a machine has been built there, much swifter and more powerful than any other made, and that this Is being Lested in the Salt Lake basin. Aeroplanes Over Forests Reports have also come In that on six different occasions aeroplanes have been seen over points in the national forests. These reports have come In to L. F. Kneipp, district forester here. The first came from the Panguitch forest that a machine had been heard over the Otter creek reservoir. About two weeks later a report came from the same source that a machine was seen over the Panguitch forest. Next came the report that an aeroplane had been seen west o Escalante by some of the forest rangers. A few days later came a report that on two different occasions a machine was seen by some mill hands near Moab. Then some autoists reported to tho forest department at Salina that they had seen four machines in a group. These reports are being Investigated by the department and It is trying to ascertain if .there is a base for aeroplanes aero-planes anywhere in the forests. That It is Impossible for a machlno to fly all tho way from San Diego or the Pacific coast, or from the Mexican border, bor-der, is tho opinion of District Forester For-ester L. F. Knelpp. There must be a base somewhere within a short distance dis-tance of Ogden, if the reports are true and, with the testimony of so many, it seems absurd to think there is a mistake. That the government has good grounds to suspect a plot against some of the cities in this region was Intimated Inti-mated by Mr. Knelpp when he hinted that certain persons are being watched and that secret service agents have well-founded clues that lead them to believe a plot is afoot. They are making strenuous efforts to guard against attack. |
