Show GLEN'S RESIGNATION SCCFPIEO BY THE cmr bohd The city board of education, at its regular meeting last night, accepted Im resignation of Director George S Glen, which was tendered on March L'5, to become effective April 1. The members of the board expressed much iccrct at the retirement of Mr. Glen .:ini, iii response, he stated that his relationships with the school system had ben very pleasant and that hid 1 1 nis lor retiring had been fully stated in his resignation. At the suggestion of Director Love-da Love-da hi. Mr. Glen was asked to suggest his successor. Dr Kdward I. Rich was first named by the retiring director, di-rector, but he also stated that there a number of other good men In his ward, mentioning In particular Heher Scowcroft, Joseph Chez. Parley Par-ley T. Wright and Valentine Gideon N'o action was taken toward filling the acancy. the board deciding that the members should consult various members of the Fourth ward before making a decision. Under the law. the school board has until Ipril 30 to make an appointment. days aft er the resignation became effective, and after that date the power reverts to the mayor of the city. Another important question taken up by the board was that of finances and the preliminary plans were started start-ed lor re adjusting ai fairs so that the school district will be dear of all debts- at the end of the 1916 school term. As the first atep toward thib ond. a motion that no department head could make purchases without the authorization of Director Wil liams, chairman of the supply com mlttee, or by vote of the entire board Miss Viola Clancy, clerk of the board was requested to submit a detailed statement of the revenue accruing from the manual training, domestic arts, domestic science and other departments de-partments in the schools where the students pay fees and to show the ex pense of supplying mat?rtals for them. The prospects e income from the ytate funds was checked up and it was found that at the end of the school the overdraft would be from 130,000 to $35 000, which Till be covered cov-ered by loans. An arrangement, which Is expected to have an import ant bearing on the financial situa tion was discussed and approed. for I the city and county boards to meet I and discuss tax levy plans. Through this meeting, which is to be held before be-fore the tax levies are announced. It is expected that an arrangement can be made whereby the city school will secure ample revenue to cover all of the expenses of next year a3 well as this year's deficit The resignation of P.
