Show THE WEATHER WAIL. (The coyotes call before a storm is the saddest of sounds, ) Long ago, beneath a yew root, Lived the family of coyotes Puzzles, with blue eyes new opened. Cunning in their yellow coats. Father coyote watched and guarded. Mother coyote nursed, caressed Loved them with that depth of feeling feel-ing Born in every mother's breast. Then one day there came a summons. They must leave their young behind They were called away to safety, They alone of all their kind. Day and night they fought that summons, sum-mons, Whining, snarling, fought that tall, Bui the Bidder was almighty; Then tho rain began to fall. AH the anguish that their souls felt Gripped their fate blaspheming throats And their voices, always mournful, Found a deeper, sadder note. Now, whenever rain-clouds gather. Or the air presages storm. Then the coyotes i-ound their sorrow For the loss of their first-born. L. CORKY. Society GIRLS' FRIENDLY SOCIETY. On April 0, Mrs. .1 W Abbott delightfully de-lightfully entertained nineteen associates, asso-ciates, members and friends of the Girls' Friendly society at an Easter tea, at her home. 2838 Washington avenue. The tables were arranged in the shape of the G. F. S. pin, and the decorations were appropriate to the Easter season. Dancing and games were enjoyed and all had a jolly time The regular weekly meeting of the Girls' Friendly society was held at the parish house Tuesday evening, April 13, at 7.30. The girls listened to a talk by Dr. Hetzel on the precen- i tlcn of deafness which was very !n- M.n PMBB S H tcreeting and instructive. The G. F. S. in America has established es-tablished a lodge in San Frncisco, where memberb can obtain room and board at a very reasonable rate during dur-ing the fair The LUah branches have voted to furnish a room in this lodce and the report of the committee In charge of the recent candy sale Showed a neat sum realized which will be sent as the donation from the Good Shepherd branch. |
