Show THERE MUST BE NO FOREIGN DICTATION One of the strongest independent Republican papers In California is the Sacramento Bee, from which the following fol-lowing editorial Is reproduced: That there is no little hyphenated hyphen-ated politics in this country is indicated in-dicated by the following letter from a German pastor, recently published by the Herold des Glaubens: "In case the German-Americans give Mr. WilBon a sharp lesson In the olectlon, his successor, Hughes, in order not to spoil the prospects of a second term, will take this well to heart and not feel under the obligation of treading tread-ing on the German-Americans' corns too much, a la Wilson. " 'German blows' have already had their effect more than once in this country, and brought refractory re-fractory politicians to their senses. "In my opinion, this mode of procedure Is the only way by which the German-Americans can extricate themselves with pro-, pro-, priety from the dilemma that has , developed and assert themselves politically with respect and honor, without incurring derision and being be-ing exposed to ridicule. The New Yorker Herold, in republishing repub-lishing the above, makes this comment: "These words come from our own heart. United and powerful power-ful action is needed and every vote for Wilson is a vote for un-neutrallty, un-neutrallty, partiality and England." Eng-land." The Bee, passing on the foregoing, says: The more German-Americanism asserts itself in this campaign the more harm 'it is likely to do the candidate of Its choice. Threats of "German blows" at the polls are full of disloyalty to the United States and her system of government. govern-ment. Those who make such threats evidently put the interests of Germany before those of this country, and those who take this attitude manifest their unfitness to be American citizens. |
