Show SIT LAKE DOCTORS: CHARGED WITH A GIRL'S DEATH I That Eulah B. Smith, the pretty Ogden girl who died in Salt Lake City on Monday, came to her denth as the result of a mal-opcration, said to have been performed by Dr F. Moormeister. Dr T M. Hotopp and a Dr Cassldy, all oT Salt Lake, is the opinion of Drs A. A Robinson, conn ty physician of Weber county and Dr. Shields, pathologist of Salt Lake county, who performed an autopsy on the body Tuesday afternoon at the Kirkondall mortuary. The operation w;is performed on Miss Smith April 19th. in a private house opposite the City and County building, and according to tho death i certificate filed In Suit Lake and later mailed to the office of the city health Inspector at Ogden, that date was the last time she was seen alive by Dr. Moormeister, the physician who signed it. One of the contributory causes of death was given as appen- j (Ileitis, but the real cause, brought I out by the autopsy, was the removal I of about 10 inches of the large intes-' tine, It being evident that no attempt had even been made to tie up the j two loose ends. The presumption arising from this condition found by Drs Robinson and Shields Is that there was no Indication of any criminal crim-inal operation but that the girl had been afflicted by a minor ailment j which had been wrongly diagnosed, and, in operating tho attending physi cians blundered in their work. Tho fact that two days elapsed between be-tween the time the operation was performed per-formed and the death of Mis Smith, has the appearance. too. that the physicians realized their blunder and being afraid of the consequences failed to give the girl further attention. atten-tion. in the opinion of County Physician Robinson, there was no good reason i v h . Miss Smith could not have readi- i recovereo trom ner nmess. n s"v had received the proper treatment. Suspicious circumstances in con I nection with the case were brought to tho attention of tho district attor-aey attor-aey at Salt Lake and. after an Investigation, Inves-tigation, he decided that an autopsy should bo held. In the meantime, the body had been shipped to Ogden and County attorney Joseph E Evans was railed into the case. The consent of the parents of the girl was secured and the autopsy was performed by the physicians named, in tho presence 'of County Attorney Evans and the Salt Lake district attorney The reRult of II. according to advices received from Salt Lake City this morning, will be the placing of charges of involuntary manslaughter against Drs. Moormeister, Moormeist-er, Hotoop and Cassidy It Is understood by prominent local physicians that the three practitioners who performed the alleged mal-oper-ation on the Ogden girl, had been refused membership in the Salt I,ake medical association several times.
