Tied, 3 and 3, Portland went fourteen Inning here today before the Rprond game of the Portland Salt Lake serl"s was settled Chief La Roy. who was in the box for Salt Lake after the ninth, won his own game by knocking a bllck single and scoring Tennant and Barbour The score was 5 to 3. La Roy was responsible tor the final fi-nal victory, but no less a personage than Buddy Ran was responsible lor the tying of the score in the ninth inning, which gave Salt Iake the opportunity op-portunity to win the game It waR all but over in the ninth when Ryan turned loose with a double which, fol lowed by a single by Gedeon, landed Ryan safely over the home plate. Up to this perilous moment Portland was in the lead 3 to 2. Having snatched victory from the arms of defeat, Salt Lake, with La Roy In the box started in to settle the dispute. It went four innings without with-out results In the way of a score. Then in the fourteenth came the Ia Roy fireworks. Tennant singled and stole Becond and Barbour was hit by a pitched ball. They advanced on Rohrer's out. There were two men down and the grim prospect of a pitcher at bat. But Ia Roy sprung a surprise.
