Show INQUEST OVER THE KILLING OF 1 The coroner's inquest over the kill j ing ot Charles Vaughn on the night of April 15 was held yesterday eve ning and the jury returned a verdict finding 'that on April 16 1915. the said Charles Vaughn came to his death at the Majestu club rooms in Ogden City by a gunshot wound feloniously felo-niously inflicted by Anderson Kyle.' Municipal Judge Vy" H Reeder, Jr., acted as coroner and the Jury was composed of W. R, McBride, William Allison and Albert E. Foulger Seven witnesses were examined, three police po-lice officers. Sergeant Charles Layne and Detectives Robert Burk and Charles Plncock, and four negroes who were at the Majestic club when the tragedy occurred. R J. Smith. J. B, Smith. D. The hat worn by Yaughan and th gun with which he was shot were introduced in evidence The crown of the hat was penetrated by the bullet bul-let about half-wsiv ilnu-n frnm tho brim on the left side There were no powder marks on it and this, the police say, indicates that the shot was not fired at close range Two versions of the shooting were piven h i he nepro witnesses, one testifying tes-tifying that Kyle, after telling Vaughn to leave the room struck him with the revolver and the explosion of the cartridge followed. The others maintained main-tained that Kyle was some distance from Vaughan when tho shot was fired and that they were not facing each other at the time This testimony testi-mony is borne out by the fact that the bullet entered Vaughn's skull behind be-hind the left ear. All four negroes stated In their stories sto-ries that Vaughn created a disturbance disturb-ance at the club and that Kle tried to put him out of the hulldlng before he got the gun. County Attorney Evans has not yet decided what charge will be placed against Kyle but tho police consider the case one of murder rn |
