Show Ul FRENCH SPOLIATION CASES ARE ENDED Washington. April 22 The last of the so-called French spoliation cases arising out of difficulties between this country and France more than a century cen-tury ago, havo just been argued and submitted to the court of claims. In all 3.369 cases have been adjudicated before this court and congress has appropriated ap-propriated almost 4,000.000 in payment of that court's findings. There remains re-mains to be paid about $1,000,000 more. These cases arose after congress passed an act authorizing American citizens having valid claims for Indemnity In-demnity against the French government govern-ment prior to the treatv of 1800 to bring suit to recover The claims grew out of reprisals on American commerce made after the United States had failed to keep the terms of an early treaty with France when that nation was at war with England. . n r , |
