Show HI ill IV1E CANDIDATES FOR OFFICE 1 1 Satisfaction with the work of some Republican county officials and dissatisfaction dis-satisfaction with some of the methods pursued by others in seeking renom-ination renom-ination was indicated Saturday among the delegations at the Weber County Republican convention, which named a ticket that consisted principally of representative Republicans from the country districts. It was apparent also that a lop-sided ticket had been named. Those close to operations within the inner circle state with authority that the nomination of Bishop W. W. Raw-son Raw-son for sheriff over a number of other candidates was the result of a "cut and dried" plan to name a man for the place in whom absolute dependence depend-ence could be placed In enforcing a prohibition law in Weber county. The prohibition law is held certain of enact ment by reason of declarations for it In both Renublican and Democratic state platforms. The action was hold not to be a reflection upon other candidates, can-didates, whose Integrity, it was stated, could not be doubted. The honor accorded ac-corded Mr. Rawson was In recognition of his Integrity and activity in promoting pro-moting the welfare of the church in his district., Those against whom appeared no opposition were Harry Hales, candidate candi-date for re-nomination for county clerk, and J. L. Robson, candidate for re-nomination as assessor. Thev were nominated by acclamation. To accomplish ac-complish this an invitation was ox- tended through' the platform to Progressives Pro-gressives to return to the fold. Th nlatform also carried an indorsement nf the proposnls incorporated in the state convention platform. A full county ticket was nominated and a county central committee re organized bv the convention. The balloting bal-loting for four-vear-term commissioner commission-er was the first in order. Those placed in nomination wero Warren G. Child, Dr. George A. Dickson, Dick-son, W. L. Porter, John Farr and Wll-Mnm Wll-Mnm C. Hunter. The first ballot resulted: Child fi3 1-2, Dickson 25. Porter G. Farr f2 1-2, Hunter 50 A-2. After this ballot bal-lot Dr. Dickson withdrew tn favor of Child. On the second ballot the result re-sult was: Child 75. Dickson 1. Porte-1, Porte-1, Farr 94, Hunter 37. The third ballot bal-lot stood: Child 68 1-2. Farr 116 1-2. Hunter 24. The nomination of Farr was mode unanimous. For the two-year term the following were placed in nomination: George B. Taylor of Farr West. Joseph Fowles of Hooper, Edwin Williams of Ogden, Lewis Zitzman of Ogden, Arthur G. Berrett of North Ogden, Dr. A. S. Condon Con-don of Oeden, and W. G. Wilson of the Hermitage. The result of the first ballot: Taylor 43 1-2, Fowles 35. Williams 28, Zitzman 14, Berrett 45-1-2, Condon 25, Wilson 21. After the first ballot a number of the country delegates made Impassioned pleas for representation on the ticket. The second ballot gave Taylor 53-5-G. Fowles. 144 1-3, Williams 11, Zitzman Zitz-man 5, Berrett 7G 5-6, Condon 2, Wilson Wil-son 5. On the announcement of this result Wilson. Williams, Zitzman and Condon withdrew their names. Berrett was nominated on the third ballot as follows: Taylor 49 1-3, Fowles 54 5-C. Borrett 106 5-6. The nomination of Borrett was made unanimous. unani-mous. For clerk Harry Hales was nominated nomi-nated by acclamation. One ballot settled the contest for county attorney. Tho names' placed before the convention were those of Joseph Evans, Samuel Powell and R, H. Baumunk. In naming Powell, Rev. Frank Braincrd made a plea for the placing of a Gentile on tho ticket. But Evans won out by the following vote: Evans 145 1-3, Powell 49 1-3, Baumunk 15 1-3. Joseph E. Storey, Incumbent, also won the nomination for treasurer on the first ballot, defeating Alma D. Chambers, his only opponent The vote stood: Storey 167, Chambers 43. Exceeding in tense interest the contest con-test for the tour-year commissioner-ship, commissioner-ship, the shrievalty nomination took three ballots to decided. The names placed before the delogates were C. A. Knowldon, Thomas B, Burk, Eldo Ritter. George Leatham, J. L. Hobson. Jos.G. Crompton, W, W, Rawson, Groat strees was paid in every nominating speech to the standing of the candidates candi-dates in regard to the enforcement of probable prohibition laws. Leatham Leath-am withdrew his name after the first ballot and Knowldon, Burke and Ritter Rit-ter dropped out after the second. The ballots resulted: First Knowldon 12, Burk 33, Ritter 9, Leatham 10 1-2, Hobson 51 1-2, Crompton 37 1-2, Raw-son Raw-son 54 1-2. Second Knowldon 5, Burke 32, Ritter 8, Hobson 53 1-2-, Crompton 34 12, Rawson 75. Third Hobson 72 1-2, Crompton 23, Rawson. 113 1-2. The nomination of Rawson was made unanimous. John W. Reeves was placed In nomination nom-ination for recorder, but he withdrew said it was obvious that the sentiment his name before the first ballot as ho was so favorable to A. B.Petterson that the latter would bo named. The nomination nom-ination of Pettersou was made by acclamation. ac-clamation. L. Robson was nominated for assessor by acclamation. Dr. E. P. Mills then made a plea that one Gentile be placed on the ticket, and named G. A. Parker for surveyor, c. R, Hollingsworth named Ralph Corlew with the statement he also was a Gentile. Then came the debate over giving the Gentile element ele-ment representation and nomination of Corlew followed: Corlew 154 1-2, Parker 49 1-2. The city delegates then renominated Ellas S.
