Suffering among Armenians In Turkey, Persia and Syria is still intense and they are dying by hundreds for want of food, says a cablegram from Constantinople Constantino-ple made public today by the American Amer-ican Committee for Armenian and Syrian Relief. The request for aid, sent by representatives repre-sentatives of the committeee In Turkey Tur-key through the department of state, says a minimum of $52,800 a month Is needed for relief in Turkey alone. Forced to Eat Grass Conditions in many quarters, says the message are so distressing that the Armenians are forced to eat grass; and yet despite theso conditions condi-tions they continue to tslclr, fast to their Christian faith although a change to Mohammedanism would quickly relioye their plight. The number num-ber pf non-combatants affected Is ono million. In Aleppo, says the message, 1350 orphans are destitute. In Marash 10,-000 10,-000 Armenians are threatened with deportation and the government has refused to allow the Christians to transact business of any kind to support sup-port themselves. |
