B The dressmakers are lending theni- HP : selves very ably to evolving this new R'lj kind of gown that may be worn to an BuJ informal afternoon affair as well as a Ki' 'formal evening affair. They give it Hfilfi the namo loft over from n cortain 0! coat and skirt model that was worn MO'! throughout the winter and was called Fill the "suburbanite's delight." They do I not speak of it with contempt when thoy phrase it thus, for they have learned to know that tho suburbanite rich or poor, is quite as apt to rule the world of dressing as the city woman. They are making these frocks of all kinds of silk with the upper part built cf any one of the new point d'esprlt nets or of chiffon The idea is not to have a deep exposure 0 the shoulders shoul-ders and arms, but to give the entire upper part of the figure an effect of transparency and color that will make sie gown suitable for the electric lights. The most informal of these frocks is a direct adaptation of tho Greek gown and chiton, girded In at the v aist with a jeweled belt which often ,, ties in front and hangs to tho knees. Bj There are many women, however, who nji find this frock a bit too informal for BlJ public use; they prefer to keep it for Bj ! The sooner 1 all carpets aro replaced by rugs the i better. Carpets which cover the on-L on-L tire floor hold dust and are hard to 1 clean. Rugs take as much dust for the i surface they cover, but the surfaco is I not so groat and they aro cleaned much more easily. i Even though a. floor is of soft wood i tho cracks can be filled and three or i four coats of good paint applied. If i this surface is covered with one large rug, or with several smaller ones placed plac-ed where there is the most traffic, tho finish will last well. Painted soft wood floors are not as desirable as hardwood floors, but they are preferable prefer-able to carpeted floors. To keop painted floors in good condition con-dition they should be swept with a soft hair brush and dusted with a dry mop or duster. Occasionally they may be washed with a slightly moistened cloth. Varnished floors are cleaned by sweeping with a soft hair brush and dusting wit han oiled mop. A prepared pre-pared oil mop may be used or an ordinary or-dinary dry mop moistened with a few drops of linseed oil and allowed to stand several hours The results are equally good. They becomo badly marred if walked on with heavy shoes. The wearing quality qual-ity of a varnished floor Is greatly in- creased by waxing. Tlio method of waxing Is tho same as for the waxed floor. The waxed varnished surfaco can bo retouched in worn places, provided pro-vided ono is careful to apply more wa to the surfaco before tho varnish Is injured. For a good hardwood floor, a wax finish with varnish is preferable. prefer-able. CELERY AND WALNUT SALAD. Wash and .clean celery. Cut into small pieces Ane-third the quantity ot English walnut meats broken in two, and enough mayonnaise to moisten well. Garnish with lettuce. EGG SALAD. Arrange Ar-range each portion on a leaf of lettuce let-tuce partly covered with mayonnaise and arrange the lettuce in a circle on a flat dish, the stem of tho leaf toward the center of the dish. Place a few lilies of the valley or daisies In the middle. CAULIFLOWER SALAD. Wash well In cold water. Boil In plenty of salt water until the vego-lablo vego-lablo is soft. Drain off tho water. Arrange around tho base a border of carrots or beets, cut Into dice or fancy shapes, to give a line of color. Placo a floweret of cauliflower on tho top. |
