Taber, who presided at the trial, ordered the tramp sent to the state penitentiary for a period of five years, where within a year he Is to be sterilized, and the penalty has met with the approval ap-proval of the people ot the Nevada town. The judge justified the Invoking Invok-ing of vasectomy on the grounds that the prisoner was of tainted blood, his family record disclosing degeneracy. The judge declared that the surgical operation is not severe and seldom Is attended by serious conditions, tho object sought being the prevention of a progeny similarly afflicted with abnormal passion and the eliminating of a dangerous individual. Utah's last legislature considered a measure similar to thiB Nevada law, but the bill failed of passage because it was too broad in its scope and was to have applied to any criminal crim-inal a judge might see fit to condemn con-demn to the knife. -an |
