Show 'EXAM' SCANDAL AT ANNAPOLIS Washington, Aug. 15 Findings of the court of inquiry which investigated investi-gated irregularities In examinations and recitations at the naval academy, with disciplinary action approved by Secretary Daniels, were made pub-He pub-He tonight at the navy department Two midshipmen, Ralph M Nelson, Jr., of Peekskill, N. Y and Charles M. Reagle of Wellsville, O., are dismissed dis-missed from the academy. Twelve others are ordered disciplined in varying vary-ing degrees. The court, appointed by Secretary Daniels last June, submitted a unanimous unani-mous report after a long and exhaustive ex-haustive inquiry which created a sensation sen-sation and delayed the sailing of the academy's practice squadron on Its Pacific cruise. All of the disciplined recommendations were approved by tho secretary and the dismissals were submitted and approved Dy President Wilson. Sweeping charges in the method of conducting examinations were suggested sug-gested by the court and are under consideration by Secretary Daniels. In his report, which preceded the inquiry, the superintendent of the academy 'recommended seven midshipmen mid-shipmen for dismissal and sixteen others were brought into the proceedings proceed-ings after the court began to hear testimony. Midshipman Nelson was found guilty guil-ty of having an advance copy of examination ex-amination questions and submitting his paper without reporting this fact; Improperly assisting lower class men In correcting examination papers, entering en-tering the buildings at unauthorized times to obtain his examination marks; obtaining sheets with questions ques-tions tor future recitations and thus attaining a position in the class to which he was not entitled. Reagle Vag found guilty of surreptitiously obtaining his marks and advance information in-formation on examinations, which eo materially changed his testimony before be-fore the court of inquiry as to cause comment. |
