I Norton has tendered bis resignation to take effect February 1. and that Sergeant Herbert Peterson will be appointed to the position Speaking of the report this afternoon. after-noon. Commissioner T. Samuel Browning, superintendent of the department de-partment of public safety, which em braces the police department, stated that there was no truth in the story and that there had been no intimation to him that Mr Norton expected to resign. "Not only has there been no resignation resig-nation offered by Chief Norton." said Mr. Browning, "hut there has been no intimation of one I think the story Is nothing more or less than a wild rumor.
