Twenty-second street, was found guilty of assault and buli-.-ry this morning in the municipal court and was given the alternative of paying pay-ing a $75 fine or of serving 75 das in Jail. In connection with the bearing, bear-ing, B. Pesco, Joe Gereje and Frank Manistre, also Italians., made statements state-ments that may cause charges of attempted at-tempted brlhery of a witness against them. The trio testified on behtlf of the defense, but their testimony was not material Murcho was arrested last Wednesday, Wednes-day, it being alleged that he had assaulted as-saulted and beaten Mrs. Laura Hansen, Han-sen, who resides at the rear of No. 226 W Twenty-second street. He pleaded not guilty to the charge on Thursday and the case was set for this morning. morn-ing. The prosecution was conducted by Assistant City Attorney R. H. Rau-munk Rau-munk and the witnesses for the city were Mrs. Hansen. Luella Hansen. Veda Hansen, and Laura Poole. Thi ii evidence was to the effect that the Hansen family ha1 been harasn.?d to a considerable extent by Italians, liv ing at 226 W Twenty-second street, for several weeks. Iast Wednesday morning, a shovel belonging to Mrs. Hansen was taken by one of the Italians Ital-ians and when the daughter, Luella, was sent for it, Murcho allowed her tn get it Several hours later, Murehc came out into the yard, where the little lit-tle girl was hanging up clothes, and told her that he would stamp on her mother if she was not careful. The little girl answered. "I guess you wont.'' and at that the defendant threw a tin can at her. She dodged the can and ran into the house with Murcho after her Mrs Hansen was in the house and. m de fending Luella, was Btruck several times by the infuriated Italian. Mrs Hansen also said at the healing heal-ing that she had been approached by two of the Italians with offers of money mon-ey if she would refuse to press the cusp against Mureho, but that Bhe had emphatically refused the offer. Her testimony in this regard was corrobo rated by Mrs. Poole. Pesco, Gereje and Manistre stated that Mrs. Hansen had asked them to buy her off and that Manistre delivered deliv-ered $10 to her this morning for that purpose.
