Show uu GUNNISON VOTE TO BE CONTESTED Gunnison. June 30. Ah a result of the tie vote in yesterday's liquor election elec-tion the forces opposed to prohibition met here tonight and decided to make a contest. Tho meeting was spirited and considerable asperity was shown toward some mem'bers of the "dry" element. The contest will be directed direct-ed against five individual voters and will be launched as soon as possible. The basis for several of the contests con-tests will He In the claim on the part of tho "wets" that some "dry" voters were not resident of the city and were therefore not entitled to cast their ballots. One other charge will be that the one person 'n question registered in one district and voted In another, this being held illegal under un-der the statutes Should the "wet" forces prove their contentions and compel the recount of the ballots, eliminating these five, the town will join the "wot" column. The city council decided tonight to canvasu the ballots on Saturday. Lew-is Lew-is Larson of Manti has been engaged as counsel for the "wets," and will conduct their side of the case. Milford. June 30. Although Mil-ford Mil-ford went "wet" by eight votes, It was apparent tonight that there would be no conte3t. Yesterday a number of the prohibition adherents talked of contesting the election, but today none could bo found to substantiate substan-tiate minors of this nature, themselves with the anUprohi'bltio Ncwhouse and Frisco also aligned themselves with the anti-prohibition-ists, and as in Milford there was at first some talk of a contest that simmered sim-mered down to a hope that somebody some-body would start it. But tonight there seems to be no one willing to take up the burden of a "fight in behalf be-half of the "drys." Consequently these three Beaver county towns will continue to permit the licensed sale of liquor. |
