Show RAILROADS SEND LETTER TO STONE Definite Statement of Propositions Propo-sitions Made in Engineers and Firemen's Ultimatum Ultima-tum Is Desired. Chicago. July 16. A step towards the resumption of negotiations look ing toward a settlement; of the wage differences between the 55,000 engineers engi-neers and firemen of tho western rail roads was taken today by the c onference onfer-ence committee of the railroad in a letter asking for a definite statement of the propositions submitted by the unions. The letter was addressed to W. S Stone, grund chief of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and W. S. barter, the hf-ad- of the Brotherhood of Locoofcotivp Firemen and Engine-men, Engine-men, and was in response to the formal for-mal notification of the result of the vot in which nearly all of the employes em-ployes favored a strike. The request of the manager's com mitte was in the following words: "Please advise the committee the definite propositions you are now supporting sup-porting under tho authority given you by this strike voir and which we ma) understand to be the basis of settlement set-tlement by which a strike may be averted " The letter was t-igned by A W Trenholm chairman of the managers conference committee rrt |
